Abstract
Games,which used as a tool to improve teaching, play as an increasingly important role in primary English teaching. The successful using of games not only can activate the classroom atmosphere and stimulate students’ interest, but also can develop students’ linguistic, bodily-kinesthetic and interpersonal communication intelligence. When choosing and adopting games, the teacher should consider many factors like the characteristics of students, students’ cognitive abilities, teaching content and methods, the form of the game etc. This thesis first analyzes present situation of using games, the significance and principles of using games in teaching, then mainly talks about the application of games in teaching alphabet, vocabulary, sentences and dialogues. Some problems and suggestions are discussed next. The end of the thesis concludes that games should serve for English teaching. Teachers need use games appropriately so as to improve teaching.
