Abstract
William Faulkner is regarded as one of the greatest American authors in the Twentieth Century. A Rose for Emily is one of the respective short novels of Faulkner’s. This novel draws a tragic living picture of the declined nobles, which intends to explain the causes of Emily’s tragic fate through four aspects: society; Emily’s family; Emily’s lover and Emily’s personality. Besides, it is important to analyze the main character to make people know this novel, such Emily’s father, Homer and Emily herself.
