Abstract
English learners must cultivate four language skills which are listening, speaking, reading and writing. With the growth of English teaching reform, the society has paid more and more attention to the reading ability. Obviously, if the potential reading ability is fully developed, the problems of how to read, what to read and why to read can be solved, students’ reading level will be enhanced and the growth of English learning will be huge. Students can improve their reading comprehension to broaden their knowledge and develop their interest in English learning. Similarly, the reading ability will also have a positive effect on the other three basic abilities and with the development of reading ability, the level of listening, speaking and writing will naturally improved. It can be seen that the importance of reading ability in English learning should not be overlooked.
This study combines the physical and mental development characteristics of primary school students, discusses some teaching design and methods of improving the reading ability of primary school English. We have to understand the primary students’ reading psychology, in order to meet their reading needs; the teacher should fully mobilize the students' interest in reading and create rich situations; encourage students to read more and train students’ reading techniques; help students to develop their reading habits and train them with the reading strategies. In addition, the strengthening of students’ word training can also improve students’ reading comprehension ability, pay attention to pre-class preview and see the intensive reading as the mainly part. Teacher should fully mobilize the enthusiasm of students, and focus on the use of inspiration, so that students learn to question their own, constantly in doubt to enhance them.
