Abstract

The Primary English Teaching Syllabus points out that piquing students’ interest is the best way to teach them a foreign language. Inspiring students’ interest is the most important tasks for primary school English teachers. The English game teaching method is a combination of games and English teaching. Fitting in with the characteristics of pupils’ physical and mental development, this method can arouse their interest, enhance their motivation, and improve their skills in the four basic aspects of English learning. The thesis aims to explore the practical application of games as an effective auxiliary method for teaching primary English. Through literature research, case analysis and observation, the author first analyzes the merits and problems of applying games in primary school English teaching, and then lists the necessary steps for implementing games. Later the author introduces some frequently-used and effective instructional games used in primary English classes. Finally, the author summarizes the work and makes a prospect.
