Abstract
Chinese-English translation is a significant way to convey Chinese culture to the whole world. It has its own unique characteristics in this domain. How to translate film and television programs, which contain traditional culture, popular culture and the beauty of the Chinese, is an important responsibility for all the translators. Since Empresses in the Palace has been aired in 2011, the directly designed dialogues have gained a large popularity in China. Then this TV drama was introduced into American market, and it represented a new challenge for Chinese native films and television programs. This paper deconstructs and analyzes Empresses in the Palace, in order to build a bridge between the western and eastern cross-cultural communication, to explore the foundation of the translation theory, and to achieve the accurate purpose in communication.
