Abstract: Chang Gan Xing is a masterpiece of the famous ancient Chinese poet Li Po, which has been translated into English by Pound, whose translation is regarded as one of the most classical versions for its vivid transmission of images and cultural connotations in the poem. This paper first discusses the characteristics of imagistic poetry and the three creative translation principles used by Pound in his translations, and then it analyzes the application of Pound’s three creative translation principles in the translation of Chang Gan Xing, based on which strategies for the translation of imagistic poems are explored and summarized. The purpose of this paper is to make clear Pound’s creative translation principles and their application so as to search for some suitable strategies for the imagistic poetry translation.
