Abstract: Loanwords, also known as borrowing or foreign words, are the words, phrases or special expressions borrowed from other languages. With the development of society, we attach more importance to the loanwords in terms of language contact. The paper aims at a study of the Chinese loanwords in English, including the characteristics of word formation, phonetics, semantics, pragmatics and the translation methods from the perspective of cognitive linguistics, which is very conducive to not only fully understanding, applying them and improving the efficiency of language learning, but also to the dissemination of Chinese culture as well as the extension of the Chinese influences to the world.
