Abstract: Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales has been a distinguished work in the world. For both children and adults, Andersen belongs to the world’s greatest cultural geniuses. With a history of more than one hundred years since its publication, his monumental work has won popular and enduring acceptance among its readers and has brought great enlightenment of beauty to children as well as to adults. The major topic in this paper is Andersen’s Fairy Tales, and we intend to analyze the tragic value of Fairy Tales from two aspects: death and salvation. Firstly, we will explore the death theme through analyzing death receptions and causes. Secondly, the salvation will be explored through analyzing love, dream, God and hope in Andersen’s Fairy Tales. His Fairy Tales is different from traditional ones. The tragic value of his Fairy Tales is that he always favors tragic theme, integrates the universal love into his fairy tales and takes multiple stands while telling the stories.
