Abstract: In recent decades, the international status and influence of China have been significantly improved in the process of contacting and communicating with the international community. The annual Report on the Work of the Government is a window to meet the world’s attention. The language is precise and concise, formal and standard, full of cultural characteristics, which has strong appeal. Its unique language features have a high demand for the C-E translation, especially for the translation of the culture-loaded words. The accuracy of translation has a great impact on the international image of China and the international community’s evaluation and recognition of china. This paper studies the translation of cultural-loaded words in the reports from the perspective of Verschueren’s adaptation theory by data analysis, and explores proper translation methods that can be adopted in different language environments.

Key words: adaptation theory; government work report; culture-loaded words; C-E translation
