Abstract: Reduplication is a pervasive phenomenon across human languages. Due to the special functions in two languages, many scholars have been dedicated to the study of this phenomenon. However, the whole research is extensive, the study of the English reduplication is absolutely insufficient due to its scant portion in English vocabulary. Though the reduplication is the same phenomenon in two languages, the instinct difference of two languages leads to the similar but divergent points of reduplication. This paper aims to make a systematic comparative study of reduplication in Chinese and English in three perspectives --classification, word structure and rhetorical effects.
