Abstract:The skopos theory advocates the adaption of skopos concept in translation theory, and its core concept is that the main factor in the translation process is the purpose of the overall translation. upported by the theory, this paper studies the errors and mistakes in English translation of Chinese tea instructions. Further discussions on the translation failures are conducted respectively with translation strategies, namely exemplification, reference, reference method, summary method. As a result, some suggestions and improvements have been put forward in the hope of better English translation of Chinese tea instructions. In the end, under the guidance of three rules of skopo stheory, that is, the skopos rule, the fidelity rule and the coherence rule, this thesis proposes that the translation of tea product instruction should employ the strategy of addition, deletion, paraphrasing and reconstructing. It suggests that the the English translation of Chinese tea instructions is the first step of Chinese tea products and tea culture to enter into the world.
