Abstract:Culture is the basis of people’s mind and behavior. As China and America associate more and more with each other, their culture are penetrating into every aspect of their daily life, such as learning, living and entertainment. Therefore, this article tries to analyze the cultural difference between China and America through the movie Guasha.
This paper consists of introduction, main body and conclusion. The introduction briefly introduces to the background and motivation of Guasha Treatment and the plots of the movie.
Chapter two talks about the symbolism in the film. Guasha used a very specific Chinese medical treatment as the entry point to express a large and complicated topic----the cultural difference between China and America. This part analyzes several representative scenes where the symbolism is used, and explains the deeper meaning of some words in the film, which indicates the cultural clashes.
Chapter three discusses the cultural differences through four clips of the film. This part analyzes the different views on “educating children”, “Friendship”, “abortion”, and “interpretation of Journey to the West”. Towards the same thing, Chinese people and American people have totally different opinions, which reveal the different thinking system of these two cultures.
Then the conclusion summarizes the whole body and explains the medical theory of Guasha treatment.
Using the movie Guasha as the entry point, this paper analyzes how and where the culture difference occurs, so that people can enhance their understanding of each other and find a better way to get along in the future.
