Abstract:At the current stage of foreign language learning, learners always prefer to the command of basic knowledge, such as vocabulary and grammar. Solid English fundamental knowledge can help to get good grades, also the mastery of which can be clearly reported in tests. However, compared with basic knowledge, the importance of culture learning is easily to be neglected for its broad coverage. Culture and language are complementary and cannot be separated from each other. It is impossible that language exists independently without culture. Besides, essential knowledge of culture will benefit to language learning. Through the study, I want to call learners’ attention to the importance of culture learning in second language learning, which can help them to get better mastery of one language.
This paper will discuss the importance of culture learning in second language learning in three chapters. The first part will illustrate the relationship between culture and language, start with the current situation of culture learning in second language learning to point out that language learners has drew more attention on culture, and then prove its importance in vocabulary, phrase, paragraph and discourse after the comparison of Chinese and Western culture.
