Pilate has been considered by critics as one of the most successful female shaped by Toni Morrison in Song of Solomon, who is the perfect representative of the image of black women. This thesis mainly analyses the growth of Pilate from the following four aspects. Firstly, Pilate is so innocence that she is not afraid of being laughed. Secondly, although she encounters so many setbacks, she is still becoming stronger. Thirdly, she is kind to anyone. Last but not least, she becomes much mature and finally is accepted by others. All of this indicates her self-confidence, optimism and strength.
