Abstract
China’s international influence is growing and its policies and politics are attracting more and more world’s attention. In response to the concerns of the international community, the translation of political discourses is of great importance. Xi Jinping: The Governance of China is an important medium for China to promote foreign publicity and display the China’s image, and its English version is an important approach for the international community to understand China’s development concept, development route and China’s domestic and foreign policies.
Drawing on the Skopostheorie, this thesis has a thorough analysis and summary on Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, and proposes that its translation should conform to the three rules formulated by Skopostheorie, including Skopos rule, Fidelity rule and Coherence rule, accurately expressing the information given in the source text while preserving the form, structure and cultural features of the source text to the largest extent. The paper aims to prove that the Skopostheorie can be applied to and guide the translation of political discourses.
