ABSTRACT
This paper is based on a survey upon 10 foreign English teachers and 100 Chinese students majoring in English who are from 4 classes in Jiangsu University. It explores mutual evaluation of the foreign English teachers and the Chinese students in English class, which includes the teachers’ attitude towards the performance of the Chinese students in English class, such as answering questions, communication with their classmates or their teachers, and we also know the Chinese students’ perception of their foreign English teachers in English class, for example, teaching contents, teaching styles, teaching manners, and so on. According to their dissatisfactions with each other shown in this mutual evaluation, possible causes are analyzed and some solutions are proposed. This paper aims at enhancing the mutual understanding between foreign English teachers and Chinese students, thus making English class a place for more effective cross-cultural communication.
