Abstract: Equivalent Translation Theory has attracted a lot of attention from Translation circle since it was created. For the application of this theory in the English translation of classical Chinese poetry, some take a negative attitude; some hold it in doubt; others think it is the proper way to achieve equivalence. As to how to achieve equivalent translation of classical Chinese poetry, translators disagree in their own views. Such being the case, study of how to achieve equivalence effect in the translation of classical Chinese poetry in aspects of rhythm, image and Yijing is conducted on the basis of analyzing the characteristics of Chinese poetry, clarifying the definition of equivalent translation, pointing out the possibility as well as the significance of equivalent translation of poetry.
