Abstract: Now the confusion in the Chinese translation of foreign names not only disturbs normal state exchange but also does damage to cultural diffusion, sometimes even damage the dignity of the country and the international image. So solving this problem is very important and necessary. This thesis adopts methods like literature research, experience summary and comparative analysis and this thesis makes a comparative study by collecting examples in various papers and monographs. Depending on former researches,factors which affects the translation of foreign names are listed:nationalities, gender and self-made Chinese names. The translations of foreign names includes following problems: misusing of notional word and title of nobility, the inconsistency, the present pronunciation of names, gender and back-translation. To solve the problem of translation of foreign names, this thesis lists following principles,:follow the convention; based on the pronunciation of source language and multiple translations for one name.
