Abstract: In recent years, many scholars have launched researches on English listening teaching in China, and the teaching situation can be described as “Dumb and Deaf English”. The thesis aims to study the listening teaching situation of Gaoyou Chengbei middle school through document and questionnaire investigation, find out the main problems of listening teaching in the school and give the countermeasures. The sampling survey will be adopted and 180 students and 20 teachers are chosen as the targets to complete the questionnaire. According to the result analysis, firstly, most students do have listening problems, which can be divided into three categories: psychological problems, the listening strategies insufficiency and basic knowledge insufficiency; secondly, some other factors influence students’ listening learning, including teachers’ comprehensive quality insufficiency, the lack of teaching materials and methods, and teaching strategy insufficiency; thirdly, the teaching equipment is outdated and the teaching courses are not well-planned.
