Abstract: The Picture of Dorian Gray is Oscar Wilde’s only novel and also the comprehensive embodiment of his aesthetics thought. This paper aims to analyze how Dorian Gray became a cold-blooded and degenerate devil from a pure and innocent boy. It concludes that it is Dorian’s character, his friends and the social environment that contribute to his degeneration. To Dorian, his sensitivity and selfishness made him yield to the temptation. Painter Basil is the person who made him find his amazing beauty. Lord Henry is the key person who made him become a debauched person. The social environment at the Victorian age influenced his sense of values.
