Abstract: This study aims to investigate the development of feminism in Britain in 20th century, and analyze the first industry revolution which has a great impact on feminism. It concludes the influence of First World War in British policy, economic and ideology. Comprehending the feminism history, the change of women status and the role of women to the human society is an issue that not only receives attention in feminist studies but also from the whole society. This paper discusses the influence of feminism through the Downton Abbey against the eavesdrop of feminist movement. It introduces the characteristics and personalities of main roles, and then it tries to explore the origination of feminism and the impact on Britain. It is the author’s hope that the paper, through studying the women in Downton Abby against the background of the rise of the feminist awareness in the 20th Century England, could provide some reference for feminist studies in China.
