Abstract

Reception aesthetics takes readers as the center of study, and fully acknowledges the important role of readers in the creation of meaning and aesthetic value. Based on the theory of reception aesthetics, this thesis studies the C-E of tourism texts for Mt. Emei. The horizon of expectation and aesthetic distance are the core concepts of reception theory, which provides important guidance for translation of tourism text. This thesis explores the translation methods based on the two concepts. When we are translates a tourism text, we can shorten the readers’ aesthetic distance by recognizing the readers’ knowledge constraint, holding the readers’ interest point and complying with the linguistic pattern of target language; at the same time, we can broaden the readers’ horizon of expectation by preserving the special formal features of Chinese language and explaining unique Chinese aesthetic habits. This article will improve the readability and acceptability of the translation of tourism text, so as to promote the development of tourism, economy and cultural exchange in China.
