Abstract:Diet is the basic need in the life of mankind, and in the existence or in the development of human being. Dietary culture, on the material basis of food, reflects the spirit civilization of mankind, centering on the cultural development. It is the symbol of the development of culture. Chinese culture and western culture have always been the two main sides in the global culture, and diet occupies a very important place in both of Chinese and western culture. Therefore, the differences between Chinese and western culture contribute to the differences between Chinese and western dietary culture. It is under the two different cultural backgrounds that the Chinese and western dietary cultures are different in concept, target, pattern, and attribution. We study these differences and then find out the points that can be digested, in order to facilitate the communication of the Chinese and western culture. By the analysis of the differences between Chinese and western dietary cultures, we can comprehend the respective cultural traditions of China and the west, then better improve the culture of China.
