Abstract:As globalization continues to develop, countries with different cultures are communicating with each other more and more frequently. Due to the unique culture of each country, it is inevitable for people to avoid cultural conflicts. In the intercultural communication theory, it can be found that culture plays an important role in cross-cultural communication. Because of the influence of native culture, people with different cultural backgrounds could find it difficult to communicate with each other, which can surely lead to conflicts.

As a Chinese American writer, Maxine Hong Kingston writes many books. The Woman Warrior is her first masterpiece. In the intercultural communications, the women stories told by Brave Orchid and the little girl “I” exactly reflect that both of them are confused about different identities and cultures. However, in the end, they reach the amicable culture integration through their mutual efforts to respect and understand each other. The purpose of this thesis is using the perspective of intercultural communication to analyze the conflicts and integration between Chinese and American cultures. When dealing with different cultures, the only ways to promote cultural coexistence and mutual development are communication, understanding, tolerance and respect.
