Abstract:The film Confucius uses the history as its theme to show the graceful bearing of Kongzi ( Confucius in English ), a renown Chinese Confucian and philosopher. This film is rich in Chinese cultural elements, through which foreign audience can not only have a good understanding of the character Confucius, but also the traditional Chinese culture with a long history. The processing of the language and culture is appropriate in translating the subtitles of the film “Confucius”, thus making the target audience fully apprehend the contextual meaning of the dialogue and emotions of the characters, and then obtain almost the same personal feelings and cultural experiences as the Chinese audience. This thesis studies the subtitle translation of  Confucius from the perspective of the Skopostheorie, exploring the methods or strategies employed in C-E translation of film subtitle.
