ABSTRACT：Autonomous Learning Ability is a key aspect of student learning. Cultivating students’ autonomous learning ability in middle school English teaching is very important. At first this study introduces the connotation of autonomous learning, and then a quantitative approach was applied to research 256 students’ attitude, awareness, and habits of self- English learning in No.7 Middle School in Jian shui to find the problems of the rural students about English autonomous learning. The findings of this research show that cultivating students’ autonomous learning ability not only needs the learners play the main role, but also needs the teachers’ scientific guidance. Cultivating students’ autonomous learning ability should stimulate the motivation of study and cultivate students’ interest, build their own autonomous psychological advantage, encourage students to explore study methods and develop a habit of autonomous learning, create the environment for autonomous learning and so on.

摘要：自主学习能力是学生学会学习的关键。英语教学中加强学生自主学习能力的培养至观重要。本文首先介绍了自主学习的概念，通过问卷调查的方式对建水七中的256名中学生学习英语的自主学习意识和态度，独立学习的习惯进行了调查，找出了农村中学生自主学习中存在的问题，提出了一些合适农村中学生自主学习能力的培养策略。中学生自主学习能力的培养既需要学习者在学习中发挥主体作用，又需要教师进行科学的指导。培养学生的自主学习能力应从培养自主学习的意识和动机，建立自主学习的心理优势，养成良好的学习习惯，掌握科学的学习方法，营造自主学习的氛围等方面入手。

Autonomous Learning can be applied to cultivate creative people, because during this process, the learner may learn to be responsible for himself; learn how to keep independence and show initiative. The learner may creatively decide their own learning content creatively, learning ways, learning courses and learning forms. They learn to plan and rethink the whole of learning consciously.
Foreign language teaching should cultivate students’ habits and strengthen the training of learning strategies. Teachers should teach students how to apply their leaning methods and manage themselves. So students’ enthusiasm can be aroused. It is beneficial to promote the teaching and learning of English in order to really enhance their quality of English Teaching and to train high qualified people for the society. This study will help senior teachers and students analyze the problems in autonomous learning and find out specific measures to deal with them.
Specifically, this study aims to answer this question: what factors influenced the students’ autonomous learning in Jian shui No.7 Middle School?
