Many scholars have made a lot of researches on the translation of China’s neologisms, and they have provided a lot of effective ways and useful advice in this field. The originality of this thesis is that the study is made from a brand new perspective, that is to study the translation strategies of China’s political news neologisms from the angle of intertextuality.

Intertextuality regards the text as an independent unit. Every text is an intertextual text, which has some relationship with other texts. It makes the translators and readers make full use of their imagination and existing knowledge to interpret the text. Nowadays the application of intertextuality into translation has attracted a lot of scholar’s attention. And many of them have defined it in different ways.

Although China’s political news neologisms are largely in the form of words or phrases, they are still regarded as intertexts from the perspective of intertextuality. In the process of translating these neologisms, there are a lot difficulties. And the translators must follow the procedures proposed by Hatim and Mason for translating intertextual texts. Meanwhile, translation strategies analyzed in the thesis are also very helpful to the translators.
