ABSTRACT:In contemporary American history, the 1960s can be regarded as the most active, most turmoil, most troubled and most chaotic ten years. As we all know American society underwent dramatic change during the early 1960s. Firstly, American Black Civil Rights Movement erupted across all over the land. Then the New Left Movement of Radical Students happened. Shortly after that the Counterculture of Renegade Youth swept the country. Next the Feminist Movement broke out ferociously. The last was the nationwide Anti-war Movement. Those social tides like a hundred of bricks strike the core of American value system. It was in that period that hippies grew up. This thesis tries to analyze characteristics of Hippy of such a special period based one American classic movie: The Loners, which express a counter-culture movement in 1960s. As the first American road movie, The Loners sets its theme on the road. In this movie, in order to pursue a free life, the hero embarks on a journey. At first, status quo of 1960s’ American society, namely, how Hippy was generated will be analyzed based on historical facts. And then, combined with the movie, the four characteristics of Hippy will be analyzed. At last, effects of this movement on social culture, especial on the young, should be explored.

摘要:当代美国历史上，20世纪60年代可以说是最活跃、最动荡、最多事、最混乱的十年。先是爆发了席卷全美的黑人民权运动，继而发生了激进学子的新左派运动、过后不久又出现了叛离青年的反正统文化运动，接着是轰轰烈烈的女权主义运动，最后是全国范围内的反战运动。这一波接着一波的社会浪潮，不仅来势汹涌，威力巨大，而且锋芒毕露，直捣美国价值体系之黄龙。就是在这样一个动荡的时期，嬉皮士产生了。本文将通过一部美国60年代反文化运动的经典电影逍遥骑士来浅析这个特定时期嬉皮士的特点。逍遥骑士是美国第一部公路电影，它将故事主题设定在公路上，剧中的主角为了追求他们自由的生活而展开一段旅程。本文首先会历史事实分析20世纪60年代美国社会状况即嬉皮士产生的原因，继而结合电影分析嬉皮士的四大特点，最后对这场运动所产生的社会文化影响进行反思,尤其是嬉皮士运动对年轻人产生的后续影响。
