Abstract:The Color Purple by Alice Walker, a black American woman writer, tells the stories of black women undergoing double oppressions, namely sexual oppressions and racial oppressions. The graduation paper attempts to interpret Celie’s quest for her identity. Patriarchy dominates Celie’s life and wipes out her subjectivity, and therefore results in her loss of identity. Celie’s quest for self-identity is manifested in her quest for traditional culture. And the fulfillment of self-identity is manifested in her achievement financial independence and spiritual development, and she becomes a dignified human being in the end. The researcher analyzes racial discrimination against black women from political, economical and cultural perspectives. And the researcher analyzes sexual discrimination against black women from socio-historical perspective. To black women represented by Celie, only after escaping from the double oppressions of sex and race can they get free. Therefore, it is harder for them to get free. Through Celie, Walker successfully reflects her theme of womanism –the harmony between sexes and love for all. And womanism represents one of Walker’s major contributions to the study of literature and feminism.

摘 要:美国黑人女作家艾丽丝·沃克的小说《紫颜色》讲述了深受性别和种族双重压迫的黑人女性的故事。本论文重点关注女主人公西莉的寻找自我的过程:父权制控制西莉的生活,剥夺她的主动性,导致她自我身份的缺失;西莉自我身份的寻找体现在她对黑人传统文化的认知上;西莉通过获得经济和精神上的独立而获得自我身份,成为一个有尊严的独立的人。研究者从政治、经济和文化角度分析黑人妇女受到的种族歧视,从社会历史学的角度分析黑人妇女受到的性别歧视。对以西莉为代表的黑人女性来说,需要摆脱性别与种族的双重压迫,才能获得身心的自由。因此她们的自由更加来之不易。通过西莉这个人物形象,沃克成功地向读者表达了她的女性主义思想,即两性的和谐统一和博爱,这也是沃克对文学与女性主义研究的一个重要贡献。
