Abstract: Emma, the heroine of Jane Austen’s Emma, is originally a selfish and innocent girl. After experiencing a series of setbacks, Emma begins to reflect on her own manners and behaviors. Emma’s personality has developed so much that Emma finally grows to be a mature and considerate woman. Through the analysis of the heroine’s painful process from her frustration to her self-consciousness and then to her progress, this paper aims to explore Emma’s psychological growth from innocence to maturity. The first part mainly discusses the innocence of Emma, especially her rude manners and impolite behaviors. The second part describes her self-reflection after experiencing setbacks. The third part stresses Emma’s growth in social behavior. The last part analyses Emma’s increasingly mature thoughts about marriage and her social role.

摘要：简.奥斯汀《爱玛》中主人公爱玛原本是个自私、无知的年轻女子。在经历了一个个挫折之后，爱玛开始自我反思，开始重新审视自己的态度和行为。爱玛的个性在不断地发展和成熟，最终，爱玛成长为一个成熟、善解人意的女性。本文拟通过分析爱玛从挫败到觉悟再到进步的过程，来探究爱玛从无知、自私到成熟、善解人意的心理成长历程。第一部分主要论述爱玛思想上的无知，表现为蛮横的态度和无礼的行为；第二部分论述爱玛受挫后的自我反省；第三部分着重描述爱玛为人处世方面的变化；第四部分主要剖析了爱玛对于婚姻和自身社会角色的日益成熟的思想。
