Abstract:Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the representative work of Harriet Beecher Stowe, one of America's most influential woman writers in the 19th century, is a famous antislavery novel published in 1851. By a close examination of the physical and psychological bondage imposed upon the blacks under slavery by taking the sufferings of Uncle Tom and other blacks in the novel as example, this paper exposes the atrocity of slavery in the south and concludes that rebelling against inexplicable injustice formidably is the only way for the blacks to gain real freedom.
