Abstract: With more and more foreign films imported to China and increasing Chinese movies entering other countries, the translation of movie subtitles, which has informative expressions and aesthetic functions, has become one of the major concerns of many scholars. Due to the social, historical differences across different cultures, the translation of film subtitles is not an easy job. Domestication and foreignization are two major approaches employed in film subtitle translation.
Based on the origin of the different cultures and the core cultural values differences in China and abroad, the writer sets about explaining the film subtitle translation techniques—domestication and foreignization, then makes an analysis into the relationship of them and presents their practical application in film subtitle translation under the different cultural value backgrounds. Finally the writer points out the main trend of those two translation techniques in modern film subtitle translation by using some examples.

摘要：本文通过归化和异化两种主要的翻译方法来讨论电影字幕翻译。本文共有四个部分，第一部分将分介绍了归化和异化两种翻译方法。第二部分分析了这两种翻译方法之间的关系并且描述了它们在不同文化背景下电影字幕翻译的实际运用。第三部分根据实例从三个方面分析归化和异化在电影字幕翻译中的具体运用：谚语和固定用语、地方文化特色词语和宗教用语。从中得出结论：归化和异化应该结合运用，这样才能在不同的文化背景下翻译出更好的电影字幕，使电影在保持原味的同时更能被观众理解并接受。
