Abstract:Motivation is an important influential factor for English learning. The high motivation is helpful to success in English learning. According to the current curriculum, students’ learning interests, attitudes, feelings and values have been increasingly emphasized. Learning motivation is one of the important parts of the emotional objectives. However, many researches focus on college and Senior Middle School students instead of Junior Middle School students. This paper aims to investigate the influential factors of English learning motivation, investigate and analyze the situation of their English learning motivation. The subjects are 200 of three grades’ students of Jianmin Middle School. Finally, the author will provide several suggestions on heightening Junior Middle School students’ English learning motivation.

   The author employed questionnaire, interview and classroom observation to be the instruments. The following findings could be concluded: 1) The effect of intrinsic motivation is greater than extrinsic motivation, especially for Grade Seven. 2) The effect of extrinsic motivation increases gradually from Grade Seven to Grade Eight. 3) There is a significant correlation between intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy and how the students think of English teaching in class.

摘要:学习动机是影响英语学习的一个重要因素,高的动机水平有利于取得学习上的成功。《新课标》强调学生学习的兴趣、态度、情感和价值观。学习动机是情感目标的重要组成部分。然而,大多数研究更多的关注与大学生和高中生的学习动机,关于初中生英语学习动机的研究相对缺乏。本文旨在调查与分析影响初中生英语学习动机的因素,对初中生英语学习动机现状进行了调查与分析。研究对象为来自建民中学三个年级的200名学生。调查之后,笔者将提出几点提高初中英语学习动机的建议。

   作者采用了问卷、访谈和课堂观察作为研究工具。下列为本文的研究结果:第一,内部动机对于英语学习的影响大于外部动机的影响,特别是初一的学生。第二,外部动机对英语学习的影响随着年级的增加而加大。第三,内部动机与自我效能和学生对于课堂教学的想法具有显著的相关性。
