Abstract:Our life is filled with different cultures. As part of human language, idioms are the deposit and essence of culture, and different idioms reflect different national forms. Idioms, which are closely related to our life and seen everywhere, not only enrich our culture and knowledge, but also reflect the differences of national forms. The phenomena they reflect are multi-level and multiplex when English culture is constantly blending with our culture, especially, with culture of the U.K. and the U.S.A.; their uses are even entrusted with different feelings and cultural symbols. In English and Chinese, many idioms are largely produced one after another and different from each other, we not only understand idiomaticities, the meaning of idioms and of national form, but also focus our eyes on the national forms that they reflect. Due to the differences between Western cultural background and our cultural background, between the ways of conveying languages and so on, the national forms that they reflect are related to the cultures of English and Chinese and produce some similarities and more differences. This thesis is to make a contrastive study of the national forms of idioms between English and Chinese.
