Abstract: With the popularization of Internet communication, a large number of Chinese cyber-neologisms have appeared, which reflect the characteristics of a social period. This thesis, based on the background of Chinese social culture, makes a study on the translation of cyber-neologisms from the perspective of the concept and characteristics. The thesis begins with a brief introduction which introduces the emergence of Chinese cyber-neologisms and points out the realistic significance of its study. The second chapter presents the basic knowledge of neologisms including the definition and features, and reviews previous study. The author then discusses the application of three main translation strategies (literal translation, free translation and transliteration) by analyzing the features of Chinese cyber-neologisms appearing in recent two years. The last chapter concludes the paper.

摘要:随着网络交际的普及,大量汉语网络新词的涌现反映了社会特征。本文以当代中国的社会文化为背景,从汉语网络新词的概念和特点出发,研究翻译策略,探讨翻译过程中的可行方法。文章第一章简介网络新词的起源,指明研究的实际意义。第二章分析新词的定义和特征,并回顾前人对新词的研究成果。随后作者运用了奈达的功能对等等理论分析了近两年网络新词的典型英译实例,探讨了三个主要翻译策略——直译、意译和音译。最后进行了总结。
