Abstract: Translation has always been regarded as a difficult work, especially the translation of Chinese ancient poems. The equivalent in language and artistic conception is hard to reach. As a form of Chinese ancient poems, the five-character quatrains have their own traits. Xu Yuanchong forms his own theory of translation during decades of practice. This paper aims to introduce Xu Yuanchong’s distinctive translation theory and analyze some of his translations of five-character quatrains to give a general description of poetry translation theory.

摘要：翻译是一项困难的工作，尤其是对中国古诗的翻译，在语言和意境上的对等很难达成。作为中国古诗的一种表现形式，五言绝句有其自身的特点。许渊冲在几十年的翻译实践中形成了自己的翻译理论与翻译方法。本文旨在对许渊冲的独特的翻译理论进行介绍和对其部分有关五言绝句的翻译作品进行分析以期许对古诗翻译理论形成一个整体性概述。
