Abstract:Sir Walter Scott is known as “the father of historical novels” in Europe. Ivanhoe is a historical novel that is based on the history of Britain and Europe, and also is one of the most well-known novels of Walter Scott. This paper tries to interpret the embodiment of Walter Scott’s writing style in Ivanhoe in three aspects which are the exquisite description of scenery, the detailed description of psychology, and the optimistic mood between the lines. Through understanding the social and historical background of Walter Scott, family background and personal experiences, it also explores the formation of Walter Scott’s writing style. The article shows that Scott gives readers a pleasing feeling by his wonderful writing techniques and optimistic writing style.
