Abstract
Political discourse plays a very important role in political life. It aims to express position, expatiate view point and publicize opinion on international relationships. Politicians make political statements, advocate political propositions, and try to reach a consensus with listener by using the political discourse to get their support. There are Democratic party and the Republican Party in U.S The current ruling Party of the United States is the Democratic party. It attaches great importance to the welfare and justice, and pushes forward the reform. And it promotes liberalism. Republican Party represents the interests of capitalists. And it promotes conservative. As we all know, Obama represents Democrats. Thus, his political discourse represents Democratic values. This paper mainly analyzes the Obama’s reforms about education, unemployment, and immigrants from Obama’s political discourse. It aims to show Democratic value of equal. Through the study of this article. It is found that on the education aspect, Obama takes steps of No Child Left Behind to promote education; on the employment aspect, Obama encourages people to start up business and build a level playing field to promote employment; on the immigrant aspect, Obama will hunt down illegal immigrants, relax immigration policy and provide every illegal immigrant who has lived in America a chance to be an American citizen. This article can help people get a better understanding on American Democratic values from Obama’s political discourse. At the same time, it reveals the value’s influence on American political reform.
