Abstract
The thesis is to study the similarities and differences between English and Chinese taboos, then analyze the reasons for the similarities and differences to help us pay more attention to taboo languages and get better communication with English speakers. The similarities exist in religion, number, death and so on, while the differences exist in privacy, appellation and concept. From analyzing the differences of English and Chinese taboos, we learn that taboo language is not only a linguistic phenomenon but also represents a culture. Through studying the reasons why we have these differences, we can finally deal with cultural conflicts and get better international communication.
