Abstract

 

English news, the first element to consider a good news is that whether it’s headlines can attract the readers’ eyes, news headlines must be simple, accurate and eye-catching, it condenses the most important and noteworthy content of the news. And this also brings a big challenge to the English news headlines’ translators. The global integration of the economy makes the English as an official communication language become more and more important, so that the translation of English news headlines has been paid more and more attention at home and abroad. This study on the translation of English news headlines will help readers to understand English news well, which is conducive to economic exchanges between countries. 

Therefore, this article mainly elaborates on the lexical, grammatical and rhetoric characteristics of English news headlines, and explores the translation strategies of English news headlines under the guidance of Skopos from three aspects: (1) Literal translation or basic literal translation; (2) Free translation; (3) Use of translation trade-off approach. It is hoped that through the study of the characteristics of English news headlines and the analysis of their translation strategies, so as to enable domestic readers to use the eyes of the news to better wait and see the world.
