Abstract:The Joy Luck Club, the first book of Chinese American female writer Amy Tan, describes different fates and experiences of the mothers and the daughters, and reflects female’s efforts to pursue self consciousness under the control of the patriarchy in modern China, and the consciousness of the daughters who grew in the low context environment in the United States as well. For a better understanding of feminism under different times and different cultural backgrounds, this paper analyzes the theme of feminism in the book from the following four perspectives: the mothers’ self salvation which is achieved by breaking the oppression of the patriarchy; the mutual salvation between mothers and daughters; the feminist narrative strategy of the novel and the male images in the novel.
