Abstract: At the beginning of 20th century, America went through the ideological turbulence named of “spiritual ecological crisis”. In that period, public American generally felt confused about the society they lived in, and the future of themselves, so that the negative emotion was filled with the whole country. The American literature of that period was overall gloomy, most of which reflected the American people’s confusion and anxiety mood after the First World War. This paper studies Fitzgerald’s masterpiece Tender is the Night, which is a typical literature in American “spiritual ecological crisis”. Through analyzing characters and society depicting in the article, delve the theme of it, and interpret the concept, the connotation and the forms of spiritual ecological crisis.
