Abstract
As for news report, news title affects the readability of the whole report directly. Therefore, the quality of news title will determine the success of the entire report. For the creation of news headline,journalists have mastered certain skills and methods. Metaphor is one technique often used by journalists. Similarly, metaphor is often be used in football news reports. And journalists often use metaphors to create news headlines. But , for the reader, how do they understand the metaphor in news title? This thesis study and explore metaphor in football news title from cognitive linguistic view and discuss the function and influence of metaphor in human cognitive process. Taking the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil News Reports for example, this article collects hundreds of news headlines from the FIFA website. Combined with relevant theory and research results of cognitive science metaphor, this thesis makes detailed classification and analysis for these metaphors. And readers can have more clear understanding and cognition about metaphor.
