ABSTRACT:The new English curriculum reform puts forward that the teacher’s role has been not just “transfer, tuition, FAQ” and should strengthen the study of self-guidance. The theory of the curriculum reform emphasizes specifically the change of students’ learning mode and requires teachers that they should lead students to introspect, create, cooperate and communicate with each other. In the situation of new curriculum, homework, as one of the links of English teaching, is very easy to be ignored by teachers and the reasonable arrangement of homework is in doubt. Thus, it is necessary to investigate and study the arrangement of homework in junior middle school after the curriculum reform. On the basis of some studies of scholars, this thesis is an investigation on the arrangement of English homework in junior middle school after the curriculum reform. I carried out this investigation in Chengdu No. 20 middle school.
The research methods are questionnaire investigation and interview survey. The questionnaire is divided into the students' questionnaire and the teacher's questionnaire. The students’ questionnaire is divided into three parts, including students’ English scores; the types and contents, completion time, teacher's correction and difficulty level of English homework; the learning effect of homework, students’ attitude toward homework and the expectant changes of homework. The teachers’ questionnaire is divided into three parts, including the basic information of teachers, such as teaching grades and teaching age; the types and contents of English homework that teachers give out to their students; the satisfaction degree of their students’ homework completion quality and teachers’ attitude towards English homework. As for the interview survey, I have eight English teachers in this school as the object of the interview. The results of the questionnaire survey and the interview survey show that both teachers and students think homework is surely the important and essential part of English learning. Moreover, despite the implementation of the curriculum reform, the form of college entrance examination always exists, so there will be little qualitative change in the form of homework. In other words, there are a few changes of homework in junior middle school after the new curriculum reform. Thus, more effort should be made to change the current situation of the limitation of homework according to the ideas of new curriculum reform.
