Abstract
With the rapid development of primary school English teaching in our country, there are more and more attention paid to this field. This research based on the topic of cultivating cross cultural awareness among primary school students, the questionnaire method applied aims to have a basic understanding of the primary school students' knowledge reserves of cross cultural knowledge and to have a direct investigation about whether they have access to different culture in daily English study. The observations and interviews aim to have a basic understanding of the teachers' view about cultivating students' cross cultural awareness and how is the real practice going; at the same time, the problems they meet and the possible solutions have been discussed. It's not difficult to conclude that most of the students' have no strong sense of cross cultural awareness through the result of questionnaire and observation. But we can tell through observation that some of these students are interested in the cultural matters about other countries and they are willing to accept this kind of teaching material. Almost all of the teachers who have been interviewed agree that cross cultural awareness has positive effects on English learning. But the problems mostly lie in the limited class time, limited resources and the simplex teaching method. Based on the research, some practical suggestions such as improving the teaching circumstances and change the way of evaluating have been proposed. And the limitations and implications of the research also have been concluded.
