Abstract
This thesis is based on Freud’s projection theory. This theory combines with Oscar Wilde’s novel The Picture of Dorian Gray to analyze characters’ personalities and mental activities from the perspective of psychology and to study the influences of psychological projection among characters in the novel and finally have knowledge of the author’s inner world and writing purpose. This thesis consists of five parts, part 1 is a brief introduction of the author Oscar Wilde and his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray and the concept of projection; part 2 is an overview and summary of previous related researches; part 3 is a detailed analysis of Henry’s projection on Dorian Gray; part 4 is a specific interpretation of the author Wilde’s projection on Henry; finally, according to the application of projection theory in this novel, a conclusion can be drawn on how to appropriately treat the projection in our daily life.
