Abstract: This Study aims to analyze the influence of ecological environment on the development of Mary and Colin in The Secret Garden. It mainly discusses the changes of Mary and Colin’s temperament and physical condition before and after coming into the garden. Mary has been a crab and irritable girl since she was a child. She begins to open her heart after getting in touch with the garden. She releases her own nature to the top of her bent in this secret garden. And gradually, she becomes a lively and docile girl, treating people politely. Colin, who has been a sickly boy, is always apart from the outside world. He lies in bed day after day and believes that he will die soon. However, under Mary’s guidance, Colin knows the existence of the secret garden and enters it finally. He is suddenly enlightened and his illness is far away from him. He gets rid of his wheel chair and firmly believes that he may live on forever and ever. It concludes that it is the power of the nature that makes Mary and Colin develop both physically and mentally.
