Abstract: This study, based on relative records by scholars at home and abroad, attempts to explore cultural differences in the English translation of tourism materials, causes of such differences and effective translation methods. The result reveals that differences in phonetic, stylistic and sentence structure are main differences reflected in Chinese and English tourism materials. In the process of translation, several translation methods, including adding explanatory words and background information, deleting rhetorical words and simplifying the text, using cultural substitution and restructuring the arrangement of the word or the whole text should be adopted to help foreign readers better understand Chinese tourism materials.
