摘 要
“广东文化名人之叶挺”属于人物传记文学,主要从生平简介、军事贡献、名人评论以及作者的总体评论这四个方面概括介绍主人公叶挺将军的军事人生与文化人生。本文的主旨是通过《广东文化名人之叶挺》的英译探索,用英文重现叶挺将军的英雄形象,并研究讨论此类传记文学作品的主要翻译方法如增译法与直译法等。在英语翻译中,尤其在翻译这种介绍人物的文学作品时,由于源文本涉及大量具有中国特色的地名,人名,重大历史事件和中国特有的军事词汇等等,因此增译法与直译法的运用倍显重要。此外,为了使译文更加符合英美国家的语言表达习惯,使翻译出来的语句“合乎情理,合乎逻辑,合乎语法”，译文在忠实源文本以及融入目的语文化因素的基础上,还结合运用了诸如省译法、意译法等翻译方法,完整清晰传达源文本的主要内容与主旨意图,将主人公叶挺将军的丰功伟绩及军事文化贡献广为熟知与流传于五湖四海。

Abstract
“Ye Ting，a Cultural Celebrity in Guangdong” belongs to the category of biographical literary works. It mainly generalizes and introduces the military life as well as cultural life of the protagonist General Ye Ting from four different perspectives, which are personal narrative, military contribution, comments from other celebrities and the author’s overall comments respectively. On English translation of “Ye Ting，a Cultural Celebrity in Guangdong”, this thesis aims at reproducing the heroic image of Ye Ting in English, and discussing the translation methods applied in translating this kind of biography, such as amplification and literal translation. In doing translation from Chinese to English, especially when dealing with the literary works which introduce characters, it becomes more important and helpful for us to adopt translation methods of amplification and literal translation, for the reason that the source text is composed of a great number of Chinese culture–loaded words relating to names of places, people, significant historical events as well as military vocabulary unique to China. In addition, in order to make the translated text correspondent to western culture and language habits, to make the translation version reasonable, logical and grammatical, the translation makes full use of other translation methods like omission and liberal translation under the principles of being faithful to the source text and blending into the culture of target language. It attempts to convey the main gist and purposes in the source text thoroughly and clearly, which helps to broadcast the great contribution of Ye Ting to the whole world.
