ABSTRACT:Ernest Hemingway is one of the most famous writers in the literary world. The Old Man and The Sea is a distinctive work. Nowadays, with the worsening ecological environment and people’s gaining ecological awareness, eco-literature is rapidly growing .This paper tries to discuss the ecological awareness in The Old Man and the Sea by analyzing it from ecocriticism standpoint .This paper discovers the implied ecological awareness. This paper concludes five chapters .In the first chapter, the author introduces the writer Ernest Hemingway and the story. In the second chapter, it summarizes the studies that many scholars did at home and abroad. In the third chapter, it expounds the relationship between human and the nature is interdependence and only human beings can live in harmony and nature of sustainable development, through analyzing the opinion of Santiago treat the animal and nature. In the fourth chapter, it shows that Hemingway is a writer who has ecological awareness through analyzing Hemingway’s experience. The last chapter draws a conclusion. The purpose of this paper is to enrich the research of the great litterateur, and evoke people’s further ecological awareness.

摘 要:欧内斯特·海明威是一位风靡世界文坛的伟大作家。老人与海是他著名小说中的一部。如今，随着生态危机的频繁告急和人类意识的逐渐觉醒，生态文学迅速成长起来。本文作者试图用生态批评的方法对其进行解读，揭示作品所蕴涵的生态意识。文章共分为五章。第一章介绍了作者，这部小说和这篇文章。第二章总结一些国内外学者对这部小说所做的研究。第三章通过描写老人圣地亚哥对动物和自然的看法表明人类与自然的关系是相互依存的,人类只有与自然和谐地相处,才能持续发展。第四章通过描写海明威的生活经历和他在这部小说中的生态意识，提出他是一名生态意识的作家。最后一部分是总结。本文的目的是以此丰富对这位文学大师的研究并进一步唤醒人们的生态意识。
